Welcome to Country

Welcome to Country

(01)About this project

When a hot-shot public servant is sent to a remote Aboriginal community to prepare for the Prime Minister's visit, he quickly learns the true meaning of Welcome to Country.

Welcome to Country lived in Dean's mind for over eight years, an idea about Canberra bureaucrats experiencing life in an Aboriginal community. The goal was a comedy drawn from eyewitness accounts and anecdotes from Dean's ten years in regional and remote communities: a short film that captures the sense of community and what connection to Country really means, in a comedic package.

With the support of the Cherbourg Community, the film stayed authentic and true to the loveable characters met along the journey, breaking down the barriers between city and country, us and them, bureaucracy and real life. And it's just the beginning.
